Presentation of Credentials Ceremony of Georgian Ambassador to the FSM

On January 25, 2024, H.E. President Wesley W. Simina of the Federated States of Micronesia welcomed Ambassador Teimuraz Lezhava of Georgia to the nation's capital, for the Presentation of Credentials ceremony. Ambassador Lezhava presented his letter of credence to President Simina, marking a significant milestone in diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Federated States of Micronesia.

In his remarks, President Simina expressed gratitude to Ambassador Lezhava for his visit and for the commitment shown by Georgia in establishing diplomatic relations with the Federated States of Micronesia. He highlighted the importance of the bilateral relationship, emphasizing shared interests and values such as individual freedom, liberty, and the urgent need to address climate change.

President Simina commended the Georgian Government for its efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the energy sector and thanked the Prime Minister through Ambassador Lezhava for reaffirming Georgia's commitment to international climate action during COP28 in Dubai. He also sought Georgia's support for the preservation of maritime zones in the face of climate change-related sea-level rise, a cause endorsed by Pacific Island Countries, including the FSM.

President Simina also expressed interest in exploring opportunities for technical cooperation and capacity building between Georgia and the FSM, particularly in the fields of health and education. He sought Georgia's support in ensuring adequate funding for the United Nations Multi-Country Office in the FSM, emphasizing the importance of sustaining support for small island countries.

In closing, President Simina thanked Ambassador Lezhava for his visit and encouraged him to explore the other islands that make up the FSM.
