President Panuelo & President Trump Renew the May 2019 Historic Visit on the Margins of the 74th UNGA
NEW YORK—On September 24th 2019, in the evening on the occasion of the opening of the 74th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), His Excellency David W. Panuelo, President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) attended with First Lady Patricia Edwin a reception hosted by His Excellency Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, and First Lady Melania Trump.
President Panuelo thanked President Trump for sending the Honorable Michael “Mike” Pompeo, Secretary of the U.S. Department of State, to the FSM on August 5th, 2019, to discuss the renewal of the expiring provisions of the Compact of Free Association, as Amended. President Trump reiterated that the FSM and the U.S. are the closest of allies, and that if given the opportunity he would enjoy visiting the FSM one day.
The FSM National Government is working with the U.S. Government to organize a bilateral meeting when President Panuelo visits Washington, D.C. in October 2019 to discuss the timeframe for the negotiations for the Compact of Free Association, as Amended.
